1. What happened to Linn??

This is the most common question we find on different discussion boards and apparently there have been some conflicting rumours. Linn told us as early as 1995 that she wasn't really comfortable with the fame and craziness that comes with being a member of such a world famous band. She loved the singing, but travelling around the world was difficult for her. As I think most of you must have noticed, Linn has more and more over time faded out from the communicative part of the band (in photo sessions, videos, interviews etc) and on Flowers/Cruel Summer, Singles of the 90s and Da Capo she barely did any interviews or participated around promotion for the simple reason that she did not want to. The last 10 years she wasn't spending much time with the band and since last year she is not officially in the band anymore. To leave the band was her decision alone, we've supported her in that decision and accepted it. We had an amazing time together in the band and those memories will be there forever! She is now very happy living away from the public life , which never suited her and we are very happy for her. We are still close friends and I really love Linn, for the astonishing person she is and she will always have a special place in my heart. She's always appreciated all of you dedicated Acers and loved every moment with you but now you finally have to let her go.

Johnny = " This will be fun. Let's get this baby on the water.

Jonas = Hey, be careful. This is the pride of the Berggren family. An Albin 23. ( a boat ) It goes rather slow, but it's wide and big.

Johnny = It's good enough. Let's og !!!

Ulf = If you're going out on the sea you'll have to og without me. I'm never involve in the Berggrens trips out there.

Johnny = He's a coward.

Ulf = I don't like the sea.

Johnny = It's okay, it's okay. The three of you can do it.

Jenny = Hey, we're not going out on the sea until next week..

Malin = The boat is not ready yet. It need some fixing.

Johnny = Okay...well... I'll learn to know my crew then before next week. Sit down and tell me about your first memory ever.

Jenny = Okay. Since I was the youngster one I stayed up pretty late in the evening. But when I got tired I used to crawl down into my bed. I don't know why I remember that. I was one 1 1/2 year.

Jonas = I remember my dad catching my when I jump down from a roof in Gustavsberg, where we spent the summer. I was 2 or 3 back then.

Jenny = My first love was Bertil Karlsson, but all he saw was my sister. And he just played with my brother. It sucked.

Malin = Bertil was cute, but I was never in love with him. When I was in the 4th grade there was this boy in another class who was so damn cute. We dansed once without saying a word. I think he was in love with me too, we were just to shy.

Johnny = Going up. Your first kiss ?

Malin = I was 13 and danse with this guy in a disco. And he kissed me.

Jenny = You've never told me that !!!

Malin = I haven't ? I just wanted to know what it felt like, so I let him to it when I felt he was on the way. It was a french kiss, and I got scared and pushed him away. It was not at all like a friend had discribed it. She said it would be like chewing on peachepits. I had bought peaches just to practice.

Jenny = I grabbed Henrik Knutsson on a party once. Just to get it over with. He had been drinking beer, so he was pretty cool *laughs* I had seen it on movies, and got it explained by a friend of mine. Ulrika Viberg. The first kiss was great.

Jonas = I don't remember my first kiss. I know it wasn't with my mum.*laughs*

Johnny = Okay. The first time you had sex ?

Malin = I'm not telling you that.

Jenny = My lips are forever closed.

Malin = We may be virgins every one of us you know....

Jonas = Yeah right *laughs*. By the way that is a tricky question. Think about all the times you tried and it didn't work out.

Johnny = So you did try some times before you got it right ?

Jonas = I guess you can say that. And by the way, we still live on the same place we did back then, and it is not that easy to talk about it like it would have been if we had moved or something.

Johnny = You're not taking any alcohol along today. You've already gotten over the first drunk time ?

Malin = Oh yeah. I was 16. Drank 2 strong drinks at a "kräftskiva" ( traditional swedish late summer party with lobsters or whatever it's called ) That was enough, I hardly can drink at all. 3 beers and I get a little strange.

Johnny = What happens then ?

Malin = No idea !

Jenny = She gets this thing over her eyes. And she looks in cross.*laughs* Later on she was to discuss everything. I myself was 16 when I got drunk for the first time. I drank cognac, whisky and coffee. And I stayed up all night. In the morning I went to feed the pigeons with a hole bread.

Jonas = I was 18 the first time I blacked out. I learn to handle alcohol when I was rather young.

Johnny = Do you fear cats ? Or do you have any ?

Jonas = No, our parents have a cat called Baileys. I like cats.

Malin = I do too. Even though Baileys gave me a scar the other day. I held him and didn't notice that he wanted to get down.

Jenny = I usually sleep with the cat....in my bed yeah.

Johnny = What kinds of cheese do you prefer ?

Jonas = Strong ones. Danish.

Malin = As long as you're not eating Black Sara I'm happy. Oh man that one smells. I prefer the regular one.

Jenny = I like brie. With bisquit and grapes.

Marina ты знаешь я когда это интервью первый раз переводил через эл.переводчик и словарь до твоего перевода, я перевел что здесь Линн сказала ''Мы можем быть девственниками, каждый из нас, вы понимаете...''
Но я конечно не знаю англиканский только через словарь перевожу, но почему-та часть слов из оригинала в твоем переводе отсутствую, почему? это так нужно?

ace Электронный переводчик тебе перевёл абсолютно верно. В англ. языке слово may be может иметь значение не " можеМ быть...", а " можеТ быть" и переводить предложение можно с конца, тогда получилось бы: " Знаешь, может быть мы девственники, каждый из нас..." А я просто выразилась другими словами;) Смысл-то всё равно остался тот-же

Hello, Malin, can you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am Malin Berggren : -my friends called me Linn - , and I was born on October 31, 1970 in Gothenburg, in Sweden. I am the second child of Göran, 53 years, my father and Birgitta, 53 years, my mother, Jonas is my elder brother and Jenny my junior sister.

Tell us about your childhood?

I've spent a very happy childhood. My best memories are the holidays than I spent with all the family, on the West coast of Sweden. My mother read us stories of Trolls. I felt myself then perfectly happy and I could dream all the day. I am completely normal and like all the little girls, I wanted to become a princess.

Do you still believe in fairy tales?

Now, I read only historical novels. My preferred author is the Swede Göran Turnström. Apart from the reading, during the small hours of leisures which leaves me Ace Of Base I paint. I prefer to paint landscapes, islands, lakes, cats but also for the girls' portraits.

Which were your relationship with Jenny and Jonas during those childhood years ?

When i was a littke girl, I already enjoyed to be alone. While Jonas built a new hut with Jenny in a tree, I was waiting they finished it to take possession and go there and dream without being disturbed.

Did you like school?

Yes, a lot! I had a lot of fun because in our class, there were only two girls and sixteen boys. Being most beautiful, I was automatically the queen of the class (Laugh!).It was the period where the boys and the girls teased themeself , between 10 and 12 years -, and I was the star. My preferred classes were the Swedish literature, history, german and biology. I didn't like mathematics at all and later with the college, I hated technical class. I remember a leason during which it was necessary to build a metal grill : while the others were already painting theirs, I havent finished yet the assembling the feet.

Which were your first musical experiments?

In the family, we never missed an occasion to sing, everywhere and in all the circumstances : in the car, on the sailing boat of Dad, during the party ... We grew quite naturally with and in music. That is the reason why I am not frightened to sing in front of three to five miles people.

You learned how to play of an instrument very early?

At 10, I begun, like my sister, to take courses of violin, but I had to give up at the end of the year. I did not support the smell of it. I thought of being allergic to the wood with which the violin was made, but I still have it. It was my grantfather's one(deceased last spring). He built himself, and today it is my most invaluable stuff, even if I am hardly able to play. If I try, I am sure that my cat Baileys would go running. (Laught)

When did you start to be interrested in pop music?

At 12 approximately. I've been first a Bob Marley and UB40 fan, and then I felt completely in love with Michael Jackson.

What about the boys?

It started at the same time. I was about 13 years when I received my first kiss. It was during a school party : a boy kissed me without telling me. I've been really scared, I panicked and I ran away shouting: " What has happen? " (Laught).

And thereafter, you became more expert ?

Yes of course. But it is only at 18 years that I had my first serious boyfriend. I was a bit late because I wanted to wait to meet the good one. In spite of these precautions, our story lasted only three months. I still have time in front of me to discover the great Love. To be with friends count more. However, for a few months, I am with a boy from Gothenburg, which named Fredericks and which is student in " business management ".

Wish you to have children one day ?

Yes I would like two kids. Boys, girls or twins, I haven't preferably, but I think it is important that there isn't too much difference between the two birthes. Between Jenny and me, the difference was ideal: only a year and half separates us, and we grew like two trees, one beside the other, Jenny is my half.

How would you describe you?

As someone which likes to seat in an armchair to observe what occurs in order to take retreat and to develop its own thought. It is this behavior which often gives the impression which I am timid and that I dream, even arrogant. However I am all the opposite. J?aime people, but I do not speak much. That's why they have often find difficult to guess my true nature.

How do you see Ace of Base' future ?

We will become as important as Rolling Stones and we will still continue when we are 60 years old! (Laughte).

She loved to go to school – and for a good reason: “It was a lot of fun there, because there were only 2 girls in the class and 16 boys. I was the prettier one and of course the class-queen. It was the time when boys and girls teased each others, about 10 – 12 years of age – and I was the star.” Malin’s favourite subjects: Swedish literature, history, german and biology. However she didn’t understand math. Later in the gymnasium Malin hated technic lesson: “I remember that once we had to make a metal-grill. Sweden’s hottest pop sisters talk in Vecko Revyn about men, alcohol, arguing and their
belief in God.
Malin thinks that Jenny talks too much about her look and Jenny is always busy talking about the fact,
that Malin always is ten minutes to late. Otherwise they like each other as much as sisters could do.
They had the same big dream, when they were small, being a princess. Until now they just became
popstars as the biggest Swedish export since ABBA – Ace of Base.
Together with their big brother Jonas Berggren, 25, and the friend Ulf Ekberg, 22, Jenny Berggren, 21,
and Malin Berggren, 22, went on top of all charts in Europe and got gold with their single “All That She
Wants” in Germany, England, Holland, Austria, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Now they are not often more than just some days in a row at home in Gothenburg, and it seems as if
the church choir has to get along some more time without the Berggrens.
- In the beginning I didn’t like being away from home that much and I was afraid of flying. But now I
learned how to cope with these feelings and that it gets better after some time. I can relax faster
now, when I come to a new place and I’m tougher now, says Malin.
Jenny thinks that the biggest change is that she has more clothes now in her wardrobe and that she
got rid of some kinks.
For our interview they chose the Japanese restaurant Sakura in Stockholm themselves. There you can
make your Yakiniku on your own.
Malin and Jenny take sisterly the same pan, each one half, and start to prepare their food. They are
tired of all that makeup, styling, clothing and being interviewed. But they have so much energy that it
would be enough for a whole soccer team. They fill in each others sentences, interrupt each other
and laugh.
Normal pop stars are stubborn and talk about the career all the time, they don’t give that many details
on their private life, but the Berggrens just gush about everything they have in mind. In one sentence
we get to know e.g. that one of Jennys unlucky loves was named Bertil Carlsson.
- But instead he asked me for a date and I refused, laughs Malin. Bertil has his own fishingboat today.
I know it all.
Jenny tells us that Malin likes men with short, dark hair, a slim body and black clothes. Malin says that
it starts to get complicated, because now she is at that age, where she’s checking the daddy qualities
of the men she meets.
- When I’m married, I want to move to the countryside of Gothenburg. I will have horses and doing
pottery. There I wanna sit and lull my kid in my arms.
Jenny and Malin don’t have a boyfriend since quite a while.
- Last Christmas we broke up, nice present, says Jenny sarcastically. I have no idea if I will ever
marry somebody. Of course you don’t think about that all the time. But if you meet the right one …
- … you can quit Ace of Base, Malin adds.
According to Malin the right one for Jenny should be blond, blue-eyed, muscular and interested in
fashion.
The only thing the sisters don’t agree in is: who is cutest. Malin in convinced that it is Jenny and Jenny
says that Malin is obviously prettier, classical beautiful and all Spanish guys are totally crazy about her.
- How nice Svullo has to have that. He never cares about how he looks like. That is the worst thing
about this job. You always have to be top and you are not allowed to be unfriendly.
- I don’t have any panic, how we look like. The main thing is that we sing good on stage and that we
don’t get too fat, laughs Malin.
Church has always been important for the Berggrens. They sang in a church choir. When Malin was
out on a camp for comfirmands suddenly she had to choose. But soon she chose her friends instead
of the church. Jenny is more engaged. She even worked as a teacher for comfirmands. Both believe
in God and when they are out on a tour they try to take some time whenever they can to go to a little
church.
- I wear a cross around my neck, days Jenny and shows a little golden cross on a chain. When I’m
sitting in a bar drinking beer it can happen that somebody comes to me and ask how I could drink as
I’m religious. But you don’t have to get drunk, I always liked beer.
None of them curses one time in the whole time we are sitting in Sakura. When Malin gets the task to
describe Jenny’s personality with three words she says: “Happy, dramatic and generous”. And Jenny
thinks that her big sister is: “Firm, mystical and classical beautiful”.
Jenny is the one who likes being out the whole night, partying and talking to others.
- Jenny can talk to everybody, always, just because it is funny to chat. I’m a little bit more demanding.
For me it is important that the person has something interesting to say. I don’t hang out with a
transvestite the whole night, just because I think it is exiting, says Malin.
- I think people who are not that serious are funny, says Jenny.
They agree that they met a lot of strange people since they are in the pop business.
Malin and Jenny get along well with each other and the boys of Ace of Base.
- At the beginning a lot of strange things happened. But now we have a better balance. We are in a
bad mood one after one and the other three are in a good mood, tells Jenny.
When the sisters start to fight, it is always the same. They snarl to each other, after that Jenny walks
away and Malin wants her to stay, to discuss about the thing that happened.
Malin starts to cry and is most furious what she is drunk.
- When we were in Spain, she was laying on the beach all day long, just because she had a hangover,
tells us the little sister.
They always laugh at the same things, silly things and insider jokes, which are nonsense for some-
body else. It can happen that a man passes by and the girls start to laugh just because they
discovered the same not important detail.
Although they are so close and just 18 month away from each other they always had their own friends.
- I have just a lot of disgusting couples around me. It is sometimes annoying when you are single, says
Malin. But she is also of the opinion that a relationship wouldn’t be right at the moment, because she
is never at home, in Gothenburg.
Of course just somebody from Gothenburg would fit. And absolutely no international pop man.
The sisters never stole each other a boyfriend. Not counting Bertil, he was interested in Malin, although
it was Jenny who was interested in him. They have different tastes with men, but they agree that a
good guy should be himself and show his feelings.
- I’m worried that it is not in for boys to show their feelings, says Jenny.
- And it’s a pity that they are so afraid of that girls could be better. They are in competition all the time,
while we take it easy, because we know that we are best, says Malin.
Two pop princesses, maybe soon bigger than Frida and Agnetha, swallow the last burned pieces of
meat (they talked so much that they forgot their food) with special garlic sauce. We don’t have any
partners that care about how we smell.
When we leave the restaurant they tell us that it was nice talking with us and ask if this article will be
a half or one page in Vecko Revyn.

Well, at least according to Ulf Ekberg of Swedish pop sensations Ace Of Base - the '90's answer to ABBA who went on to sell more than 21 million copies of their "Happy Nation" album worldwide (which incidentally put them in the Guiness Book of World Records for best selling dedut album!). But the Scandanavian foursome aren't quite comfortable with their success.

"All this wasn't my plan", says the Berggrens' blonde sister, Malin. "For me, this is too big, especially with the success in America. It doesn't look like it, but it costs a lot of psychic energy to push yourself to success on this level. We have to push forward, but I just can't, I want to push backwards. The guys wanted success (one half of Ace Of Base, brother Jonas and Ulf Ekberg), but not like this; it's too big for all of us. Europe is a big market, we can live on it very well. It would be good to be able to go to America and be left alone.

When you're ten or eight, you want to become a princess, to become famous, to be beautiful, to do 30 things at the same time, so many exotic things, but once you grow older, you find that it's impossible. Then suddenly it works and it's, 'Oh how can I do it from here'? There is no high school education in being famous. I could quit this and I would still continue singing in the bathtub or the shower because I feel good about myself when I sing, but not at this level. I am my music, I am what I sing. I liked a lower level or no level at all, like a church choir".

When asked if she's a little melancholic, she answers: "I live two lives, one very rich and one very poor. This is the poor life". Pull out your hankies, girls!

Fact: Malin Berggren is scared of flying! "When the plane goes down, I can't breathe, talk, speak or move", she says. "They said flying lessons might help, so I went to an airport, but I threw up." Sick!

What are your plans for the new year?
In the USA, our first single "All That She Wants" is still at the top of the charts. Therefore we will go to the States for presenting our new CD. In nearly four weeks we will visit all big cities. At the beginning of February the tour through Asia starts: Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, afterwards Australia.

Is this your first journey to Far East?
Yes. Already at school I was interested in everything that was linked with Far East mysticism. Besides, I also like to read novels that takes place in Far East. Not without any reason an Asian sign [wasn't it from Egyt?] of love adorns the cover of our single "The Sign".

What does your boyfriend say about that you are never at home for a longer time?
It is not easy for both of us - but we have to live with it. But when I'm in Gothenburg for a few days, it is more intensive and more beautiful.

When will a new Ace Of Base-single come out?
At the beginning of February. It is called "Don't Turn Around" - a cool dance-song with reggae-feeling and a very plausible refrain. We have already shot the video in November in Stockholm [actually it was in Miami] last year. But now, we are waiting if our current single "The Sign" peaks the number one position - that would be great.

When will you come to Germany again?
Well, we've just finished our last tour. Therefore, there are no new plans for Germany. But I can promise the German fans: This summer we will perform at some big open-air festivals in Germany .

Её голубые глаза и длинные белокурые волосы делают Малин Берггрен идеальным стереотипом шведской красотки. Со своей сестрой брюнеткой Дженни она обеспечивает вокальные партии в АОВ, группе, которая достигла самого большого успеха в этом году на интернациональном уровне. Для "Салюта" (журнал так называется) исполнительница Don't turn around и Living in danger вспоминает своё счастливое детство...

Привет, Малин, можешь представиться нашим читателям?

Я Малин Берггрен: мои друзья зовут меня Линн, я родилась 31 октября в 1970 году в Гётеборге, Швеция. Я второй ребёнок Йорана, 53 года, мой отец и Биргитты, 53 года, моя мама, Йонас мой старший брат, а Дженни моя младшая сестра.

Расскажи нам о своём детстве?

У меня было очень счастливое детство. Мои лучшие воспоминания это выходные, которые я проводила со всей семьёй на Западном побережье Швеции. Моя мама читала нам истории про троллей. Какие у тебя были отношения с Дженни и Йонасом в детстве?

Когда я была маленькой, я уже тогда наслаждалась быть одной. Пока Йонас с Дженни строили новую хижину на дереве, я ждала, когда они закончат, чтобы завладеть ею, забраться туда и мечтать, и чтобы меня не беспокоили.

Тебе нравилась школа?

Да, очень! Потому что в нашем классе было очень весело, там было только две девочки и 16 мальчиков, я автоматически стала королевой класса (смеётся!). Это был период, когда мальчики и девочки дразнят друг друга, где-то между 10-ю и 12-ю годами-, и я была звездой. Моими любимыми предметами были Шведская литература, история, немецкий яз. и биология. Я совсем не любила математику и позже в колледже я ненавидела технические предметы. Я помню урок, на котором надо было построить металлический гриль: пока остальные уже почти нарисовали свои решётки, я ещё не закончила соединять ножки гриля.

Какими были твои первые музыкальные эксперименты?

В семье мы никогда не упускали возможность спеть, везде и при любых обстоятельствах: в машине, в папиной плывущей лодке, во время вечеринки... Естественно, мы выросли с музыкой и в музыке. По этой причине мне не страшно петь перед толпой людей.

Ты рано научилась играть на музыкальном инструменте?

В 10 лет как и моя сестра, я начала брать уроки игры на виолончели, но мне пришлось прекратить к концу года. Я не переносила её запах. Я думала, что у меня была аллергия на древесину, из которой виолончель сделана, но она у меня есть до сих пор. Это виолончель моего дедушки (умершего прошлой весной). Он сделал её сам, и сегодня это моя самая бесценная вещь, деже если я едва умею на ней играть. Если я попытаюсь играть, то мой кот Бэйлис убежит. (Смеётся)

Когда ты начала интересоваться поп-музыкой?

Примерно в 12 лет. Сначала я была фанаткой Боба Марли и UB40, а потом я по уши влюбилась в Майкла Джексона.

А что касается мальчиков?

Это началось в то же время. Мне было около 13 лет, когда я впервые поцеловалась. Это было во время школьной вечеринки: мальчик поцеловал меня, не сказав мне ничего. Я была очень напугана и убежала в панике, прокричав: " Что это было?" (Смеётся).

А потом ты стала бОльшим знатоком?

Конечно, но только в 18 лет у меня появился первый серьёзный бойфренд. Я немного запоздала, потому что хотела подождать, чтобы встретить хорошего парня. Несмотря на эту предусмотрительность, наша история продлилась всего три месяца. У меня всё ещё есть время открыть великую любовь. Быть с друзьями больше имеет значение. Тем не менее, я уже несколько месяцев с парнем из Гётеборга, которого зовут Фредерик, он студент в "бизнес менеджменте".

Мы станем такими же значимыми, как Роллинг Стоунз и продолжим выступать, когда нам будет по 60 лет! (Смеётся).

Малин Берггрен: "Я была влюблена в Майкла Джексона!"

Белокурая, красивая, длинноволосая - на первый взгляд Малин Берггрен кажется весёлой (яркой) шведкой. Но певица из АОВ более романтичная, задумчивая и мечтательная персона.
В ходе беседы Малин кажется открытой и сердечной. Её оживлённые (весёлые) зелёные глаза постоянно двигаются, так же как и её руки, она подчёркивает каждую фразу жестом: мгновение назад она нервозно скрещивала их, в следующее мгновение её руки играли с ложкой. В свои 22 года она хороший слушатель и к удивлению с хорошим чувством юмора. Она грозит: "Мы станем такими же великими, как Роллинг Стоунз и мы будем преследовать вас, когда нам будет по 60 лет!" Певица из АОВ ростом 168 см не пренадлежит к типу людей, которые хотят быть всё время в центре внимания. Она описывает себя, как кого-то, кто:" сидит в кресле, наблюдает за происходящим вокруг и имеет своё собственное мнение по этому поводу." Таким образом красивая блондинка кажется застенчивой и мечтательной, так же как неприветливой и высокомерной. Но на самом деле всё наоборот: " Я люблю людей, но я не особо разговорчива." Малин или Линн, как зовут её друзья, родилась 31.10.1970 в Гётеборге, она второй ребёнок Йорана и Биргитты. Когда она вспоминает своё детство, её глаза начинают светиться: " У меня было очень счастливое детство. Она смеётся смущённо и краснеет: " Я встретила одного человека не так давно и я очень в него влюблена. Но это всё ещё так свежо, я подожду какое-то время и посмотрю, что получится из этого. Хотя я могу сказать одну вещь: он не живёт в Гётеборге. И поэтому я могу переехать оттуда." Но из-за её многочисленных друзей, с которыми она любит проводить время в студенческих пабах по вечерам, для неё это сложно.
